Wow, it's 2018!

It's going on two year's since I posted last! The past 24 months have been a blur as we went through a move from South Florida to Central Florida. I miss my classes in Boca but I know they are in good hands. I remember the advice from my first pottery instructor; learn from as many different teachers as you can as each one will give you different information and ideas. From there you can go on to use what works best for you and develop your own style. And remember to continue to learn!

I finally have my kiln and most of my studio set up. This week I was in the clay, just for a bit but it was great!

Last Run, Maybe?

I just did my first bisque and glaze loads since December! I never thought I'd give up my Skutt and downsize but when there was a good kiln sale going on just as I was thinking I'm not doing as much clay work as I used to do and I'd like to fill a smaller kiln more quickly, doing more experimental work, I decided it was time to downsize. I ordered a smaller L&L which should make changing elements easy (which I was not looking forward to as my Skutt gets closer to needing new elements plus at the same time I would replace some bricks that had been damaged through it's last move). Bonus: I won't have to stand on my toes or head to reach the very bottom of the kiln!
First photo is loading the bisque then some of the glazed work after unloading earlier this week.

Now to decide, what to do with my Skutt... wish I had a larger garage so I could keep it for those times I really want to make something taller than 18". Guess when that happens I'll just work out ways to put my work together post-firing.

My new kiln should be delivered today!

A First in the Garden!

These little flowers appeared a couple weeks ago. This is my first year to try growing peas and carrots.
Then this appeared on the pea vines! And this week I picked enough peas for lots of raw munching plus more to have with dinner. They are soooo sweet and tasty! Plus I picked my very first carrot from the garden .... there it is next to a few of the peas.
In the clay studio I've been working on a special order so while it is in waiting stages I was inspired by one of my own pieces I had recently hung on the wall ....
I decided to roll out some slabs and make a triptych, and it won't even have stitching or fiber! Now why did I do that?!

Hope you're having a great week!

Teapot Show

This teapot spent last month in a teapot show up at the Lighthouse ArtCenter Gallery in Tequesta. I didn't get to the opening but was able to take a few photos when I picked up my teapot on Saturday. Below on the left was my personal favorite naturally, with the resemblance to fabric and quilts! And of course the superb craftsmanship.
Best in Show was a beauty too!
And isn't this Nested Teapot gorgeous, by my friend Karla Walter.
Most ceramic artists or teapot collectors are familiar with Fong Choo's teapots. He also juried the show.
There were two other shows on at the gallery, including a faculty show.
I sure hope to get back in the clay this week. After a wonderful long holiday I'm raring to get into the clay and fiber.
Hope you are enjoying your first week of 2012!
